| Solar FlexRack, a product developed and produced in Northeast Ohio, has been quietly making a big difference in the cost of solar energy projects with a innovative, though not necessarily “high-tech” solution. The fact is, one of the biggest expenses in erecting a solar panel array is labor. And labor costs are driven by time — in this case, the time it takes to set up each mounting rack and install the solar panels. The website of one of Solar FlexRack’s competitors trumpets their installation time: an 8-man crew can erect one mounting rack in about 31 minutes. By contrast, one Solar FlexRack can be installed by a 3-man crew in 3 minutes or less. Here’s a first-hand account from Tom Hughes of Sullivan & Sons Ltd. of Ottawa, Ontario of their experience with the Solar FlexRack:“We set up two solar farms adjacent to one another in a rural area outside of Ottawa — one 10 megawatt and one 9 megawatt. This is the largest solar panel array in Canada, and the third-largest in North America. “Once the racks were transported to the installation posts, our crews averaged about a minute-and-a-half per rack to erect each one. We got a system going, and it all went very smoothly and quickly.“ We installed a total of 13,000 Solar FlexRacks. The nice thing about this unit is that it’s not big, heavy or cumbersome. And since it’s pre-assembled, we were even able to get them installed in the rain, because you don’t have spend time out in the field putting them together. “I don’t see anyone else out there that has a product that is as easy to install as the Solar FlexRack. Anything else is going to be much more labor-intensive. ”Other projects using the Solar FlexRack have recently been completed or are nearing completion in Belle Mead, New Jersey; Tuscon, Arizona; West Chester, Pennsylvania; Toledo, Ohio (multiple projects); and at several schools in the state of California. “I know it sounds like a cliché, but the response from customers has truly been incredible. As soon as they see a demonstration in person, or even on video, they’re sold,” said Tom Jensen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Solar FlexRack. “The pre-assembly makes it so much easier, faster and economical. On one hand, the savings in labor costs for our customers is substantial — in one case the labor savings made the difference on a project going forward or not — but the base cost of the unit saves them money too.” “Now that we have roof- and ground-mount versions in all configurations, plus easy use of either framed or thin-film panels, I’ve heard people comparing the innovation to something Steve Jobs (Chairman/CEO of Apple) would have come up with,” Jensen continued. “But it’s a Solar FlexRack, not a Mac. And for someone starting a large solar project, that’s better."More information about the Solar FlexRack is available at www.SolarFlexRack.com. |
